Congenic Strain Differences of Renal Malformations in Aci/mna Rats by Introgression of the Chromosomal Region of Buf/mna Rats Containing Pur1

The ACI rats developed hereditary renal malformations including agenesis and hydronephrosis at moderate penetrance. During construction of a variety of congenic strains based on ACI/Mna (ACI), BUF/Mna (BUF), and WKY/NCrj (WKY) rats, we found that the renal malformations were significantly suppressed by introgression of a segment of chromosome 13 of BUF rats containing Pur1 locus. It is plausibl...

Wild pistachio (Pistacia atlantica mutica) oil improve metabolic syndrome features in rats with high fructose ingestion

Objective(s): Metabolic syndrome is a multiplex risk factor for diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Since some dietary fats such as mono-unsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) modify metabolic syndrome components the aim of the present study was to evaluate  the preventive effects of mixture, kernel and hull oils of wild pistachio (WP) (Pistacia atlantica mutica) as good sources of MUFA on different f...

Effect of prenatal immobilization stress on sexual activity in male Wistar rats

Since the stress influences the biological processes, in the present study the effect of prenatal immobilization stress on the sexual activity of male rats was studied. Adult male and female Wistar rats (Pasteur Institute, Tehran) were copulated. After observing the vaginal plugs, pregnant rats were divided into control and two experimental groups. All groups were kept under the laboratory co...

Genetic mapping of the thymoma susceptible locus, Tsr1, in BUF/Mna rats.

BUF/Mna (BUF) rats have been reported to develop spontaneous thymomas in virtually 100% of animals (1–4). The thymomas in BUF rats have been defined as epithelial cell tumors, having varying proportions of lymphocytic components that are non-neoplastic in nature (5,6). These thymomas start to develop in rats at the age of 9 months and they reach their maximum growth by the time the animals are ...

Short photoperiod inhibition of growth in body mass and reproduction in ACI, BUF, and PVG inbred rats.

Laboratory rats have been generally considered non-photoresponsive, but strains of laboratory rats have been found to be variable for this trait. Young males of both the Fischer (F344) and Brown Norway strains (BN) suppress reproductive development, food intake and body mass in short winter photoperiod (short days (SD); 8 h light:16 h darkness), and food restriction interacts with SD to enhance...
